CMA Nominations 2013

Earlier this week the nominees for Country Music’s Biggest Night- the CMA Awards on the 6th of November were announced. Familiar names lead the way, with a few surprise nominations thrown in for good measure.

Each and every nominee for Entertainer of the year, is founded on their years success, anyone could walk away with this award. One name on this list however, has been absent from this category since 2009: George Strait. Strait’s latest tour, The Cowboy Rides Away, will be his last, and the vocalist with more number one hits than any other artist, is retiring from the live circuit. It would be a fitting gesture for the reigning King of Country Music to win this award once more. Over the past few months Strait has sold out some of the largest venues in America, even setting some records along the way. And that is not to mention his 60th number one, gained the week of his 61st birthday earlier this year: Give It All We’ve Got. This cowboy deserves this final entertainer of the year award, before he hangs up his hat.

Relative newcomer Kasey Musgraves is up for six awards (tied with Taylor Swift for most nominations), as both a vocalist and a songwriter. Alongside nominations for her own songs, Musgraves co-wrote the Miranda Lambert hit Mama’s Broken Heart. It is an impressive feat from an artist who’s debut solo single was released in march of this year.

The list of nominations is varied, from George Strait to Kasey Musgraves, both newcomers and established artists are featured. From Taylor Swift, to Florida Georgia Line and The Civil Wars, the wide spectrum of country music is displayed. This should be a celebration of artists who have had commercial success over the past year. The incredibly talented nominees are all viable options for CMA Award winners, and it will be anyone’s guess as to who will take home the trophy.
